Six of one and a half dozen of the other is the same amount said in two different ways.  Sometimes people are talking about the same thing but talking about it in different ways.  After each one has said what they wanted to say and then everyone agrees it is really the same difference "because" it is like six of one and a half dozen of the other.  It is the same thing only told in two different ways.
